Our drawing could be a study for the woman leading the lamb to the sacrifice in Offering to Love, exhibited at the Salon of 1893. The painting was destroyed in a fire at the Jockey Club in Buenos Aires in 1953 (see D. Bartoli and F. C. Ross, William Bouguereau, New York, Antique collectors' club, 2010, t. 2, p. 282, cat. 1892/08, rep.). We find our figure in a large sketch in a private collection (fig. 2). The artist finally changed the movement in the final painting.
