Copley seinen köstlichen Humor, mit dem er dieses Mal die Welt der Reiter sprichwörtlich auf die Schippe nimmt: Der Stall ist sachlich wie modern im Zeitgeist zu Beginn der 1980er Jahre überbordend dekoriert. Aufgeräumt stehen beide Pferde auf gemustertem Boden vor farbiger Wandbemalung. Selbst die Mistschaufeln sind ordentlich verräumt. Copley unterwirft seine sonst typische zeichnerische Kurzschrift einem konkreten Farbmuster, mit architektonischen Raumstrukturen, Gittermustern und Rasterkonstruktionen, die er im Stile eines Sol LeWitt und Ellsworth Kelly auf ein Minimum reduziert. Provenance Private collection, Germany In this painting, William N. Copley demonstrates his charming sense of humour, with which, in this case, he literally takes the equestrian world for a ride. The stable has been extravagantly decorated, in a practical and modern manner, according to the Zeitgeist of the beginning of the 1980s. Both horses stand good-humouredly on patterned floor in front of a coloured wall. Even the manure shovels are neatly stowed away. Copley subjects his otherwise typical graphic shorthand to a concrete colour pattern with architectural room structures, grid patterns and constructions, which he reduces to a minimum in the style of Sol LeWitt and Ellsworth Kelly. Not even the coats of the horses are spared; the artist colours them with an irregular dot pattern.
