Bronze Sculptures , Rome 2011, pp. 140-150 The model of these four evangelists, depicted in a standing position with their usual attributes (St. Luke with the bull, St. John with the eagle, St. Mark with the lion and St. Matthew with the angel), has been recognised by Jennifer Montagu in the statues of Jacob Cornelisz Cobaert (Flanders ca. 1630 - Rome 1615) placed as an ornament on the altar executed between 1587 and 1582 for the chapel of Cardinal Mathieu Cointrel in the Roman church of San Luigi dei Francesi. These bronze figures were often destined for the ornamentation of liturgical cabinets or furnishings, as for example the altarpiece attributed to him with gilded bronze sculptures, now preserved in the Sala Altoviti of Palazzo Venezia in Rome, is well illustrated.
