WUNDT (Theodor). Wanderungen in den Ampezzaner Dolomiten. Berlin, Raimund Mitscher, [1893]. In-4°, publisher's full calf binding, decorated with a polychrome depiction of Jeanne Immink climbing the Cima Piccola, gilt title to spine. First edition, which was indeed published in 1893, but is undated, much rarer than the second dated 1895. Illustrated with a colour fold-out map, 36 plates and 74 photographs in the text. This volume is devoted to the ascents in the Dolomites around Cortina d'Ampezzo, made between 1887 and 1893: Cima Piccola di Lavaredo, Cristallo without a guide, Croda Rossa, Cadini di Misurina where a summit bears his name, Cima Grande di Lavaredo and Tofane in winter, Pelmo, Croda di Lago, Sorapis... and is illustrated with some very fine photographs of climbing scenes, including the one reproduced on the beautiful polychrome publisher's hardback depicting the German mountaineer Jeanne Immink climbing Cima Piccola di Lavaredo. It also includes a chapter on winter mountaineering. Theodor Wundt (1858 - Munich 1929) had a brilliant military career (he ended up a General), but he is best known as a mountaineer and photographer. He climbed in the Alps, mainly in the Dolomites, but also in the Pennine Alps (Matterhorn) and the Bernese Alps (Jungfrau). He was a pioneer of winter climbing, first in the Tatras, then in the Dolomites, the Tofane and the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. He didn't hesitate to carry his cumbersome photographic equipment up difficult routes in summer and winter alike, providing us with some spectacular climbing scenes. His climbing companions included Jeanne Immink (1853 - 1929), one of the first women to take up sport climbing. Perret, 4608 - Regards sur les Alpes 95 - ACL p. 344
