In the practice of some of these buddhis rituals, a staff called ‘Yama Danda’, like the one presented here, is used. It is an attribute of Yama Dharmaraja, 'The Lord of Death' and a prominent Gelugpa protector (guardian deity), who is often depicted holding such a staff in his right hand. These ritual clubs are meant to resist and destroy all kinds of evil influences and to transform mental defilements into mindful awareness. In Tibet, they were carried by ascetics and mendicants as signs of spiritual authority. Jahrhundert n. Chr. in Nordindien entstand, im 7. und 8. Jahrhundert in Tibet Wurzeln schlug und sich dann über die Himalaya-Region verbreitete. Es ist weithin als tibetischer Buddhismus bekannt. Bei der Ausübung einiger dieser buddhistischen Rituale wird ein "Yama Danda" genannter Stab verwendet. Er ist ein Attribut von Yama Dharmaraja, dem "Herrn des Todes". Dieser ist ein bekannter Gelugpa-Beschützer (Schutzgottheit), der oft mit einem solchen Stab in der rechten Hand dargestellt wird. Diese rituellen Artefakte sind dazu gedacht, allen Arten von bösen Einflüssen zu widerstehen und geistige Verunreinigungen in achtsames Gewahrsein zu verwandeln. In Tibet wurden sie von Asketen und Bettelmönchen als Zeichen spiritueller Autorität getragen. Der hier präsentierte Yama Danda ist sowohl aus goldenem Messing als auch aus Kupfer gefertigt. Der Schädel ist meisterhaft aus klarem Bergkristall geschnitzt.
