Lot no. 3194
Delicate silk embroidered sampler of the Queen. Louise of Prussia (1776-1810) Rectangular silk shawl with extremely fine embroidery using the so-called knotted and satin stitch technique with polychrome silk thread, silver and gold threads and sequins in places. Various motifs arranged almost over the entire surface, including depictions of delicate flower bouquets and baskets with magnificent cornflowers (the symbol of Prussia and the Queen's favourite flower), vetches, hyacinths and violets, butterflies and landscape motifs, symbols of faith, love and hope, etc.; some with embroidered inscriptions. Central monogr. "FWR" under the royal crown of Frederick William III of Prussia (1770-1840). Depicted above the star-shaped Order of the Black Eagle and to the side the depiction of the crowned Prussian eagle with trophy and flag bundles. Later mounted on card and framed, verso with company label of the Imperial Court Suppliers Gebrüder Röhlich, Berlin. Inscribed "Handmade by Queen Luise of Prussia" on a printed paper label below the cloth in the frame. Traces of age. Cloth: 64 cm x 39.5 cm. Frame. The royal couple had to flee after Prussia's defeat by Napoleon's France and lived in exile in East Prussia from 1806 to 1809. The motifs depicted are presumably also symbols of their personal life situation. A fine German needlework sampler by Queen Louise of Prussia (1776-1810). Age-related signs of use. Framed. German. Circa 1806-1810.
