After studying at the School of Applied Arts in Prague, she taught in Plzeň and Prague, while at the same time creating a diverse body of artistic work that attracted considerable attention, especially during the Second World War. She undertook numerous study trips to Southern and Western Europe, Egypt, Lebanon, and Syria. In 1920, she was one of the founding members of the Circle of Women Artists (Kruh výtvarných umělkyň) and was strongly committed to raising the international profile of Czech women artists in the late 1920s. Her correspondence documents in particular her decisive role in the exhibitions held in Amsterdam and The Hague in 1929. Despite personal crises and a temporary ban on exhibiting from 1948 to 1957, she made an important contribution to the artistic emancipation of women and the cultural representation of the young Czechoslovakia."""nka BURGHAUSEROVA
