ZENITH Automatic, El Primero, Ref. 01-0200-415, aka “Fernseher” or “Big Blue”, made in the 1970s A fine, rare and unusual, limited edition, automatic, stainless steel, TV-screen shaped chronograph wristwatch with two-tone dial, blue with silvered rings for the constant second, 30-minute and 12-hour registers, luminous Baton hands, date, tachymeter scale, monobloc chronograph pushers and stainless steel bracelet. Fitted with a caliber 400, rhodium-plated, self-winding, 31 jewels, column-wheel chronograph mechanism, straight line lever escapement, shock absorbers, monometallic balance, blued steel screws, screwed case back, mineral glass. Dial, case and movement signed. Dim. 44 x 39.50 mm. Thickness 14.25 mm. Approx. overall length for bracelet 180 mm. Introduced in 1972, this TV screen El Primero model, ref. 01.0200.415 was made in a limited series of 4950 pieces in total till 1978. The watch nickname is “Fernseher”, for the “tv set” due to this particular shape between square and tonneau-shaped. The model is also called “The Big Blue” among collectors. An additional 50 “TV” Primero’s were made with black dial , ref. 01.0201.415, in 1978, to mark the end of the model,  bringing the total production to 5000 pieces. These black TV’s were the last Zenith El Primero’s of the ‘70s. The model “Fernseher” is described and illustrated in Zenith book, by Manfred Rossler, Damiani edition 2008, page 252.
