ZILCKEN, Charles Louis Philippe (1857-1930). Impressions d'Algérie. Paris: Flory, 1910. Splendid artist's binding by Meunier on this beautiful series of views, landscapes, architecture and figures of Algeria, based on the travels undertaken by Zilcken between Algeria and Egypt. The intense and harmonious images convey with painterly sensitivity the luminous, evocative atmosphere of the Maghreb. A rare and fascinating work, representative of early 20th-century European Orientalism. Folio (326 x 255mm). Copy no. 4 from a limited edition of 120, one of only 8 printed on Japon paper and containing a suite of 15 hand-coloured etchings signed by the artist and protected by tissue guards. Also illustrated with a suite of 30 drypoint etchings, 15 of which in two states. Wide margins. Bound in contemporary full morocco, signed by Meunier, fine floral decoration to upper cover composed of green and pink leather onlays, gilt title to spine, morocco turn-ins with green leather inlays.
