Lot no. 180
ZOLA (Émile) Paris, Librairie Centrale, 1866. Mon salon. In-12 (18,1 x 11,2 cm), bradel binding in green paper decorated with gilt floral design, smooth spine, green morocco title-piece, untrimmed, covers preserved. First edition. This collection brings together Zola's reviews of the 1866 Salon de peinture, published in L'Évènement from 27 April to 20 May 1866. An advocate of modernism, the writer and art critic largely defended Manet and the young painters rejected at the Salon. The book includes a preface dedicated to Zola's great friend Paul Cézanne, as well as an appendix containing letters sent to the newspaper's editorial staff. Inside covers soiled, light foxing on rare leaves. Bibliography: Vicaire, 1196.
