The only edition of "Amphibien" from Buhle's Naturgeschichte, our copy as very rare in bright old colour. - Nissen ZBI, 4715 - Siebmacher V.9, p. 47 - Fourth volume of the six-volume, opulently illustrated zoological series published from 1831-42. The lithographs, lavishly coloured in bright colours, partly heightened with egg white, show lizards, frogs, tortoises, snakes, etc. The text volume was published by Eduard Eisenach, who had taken over the major publishing project from Wigand and Brüggemann in 1835. - Coloured copies are very rare. - Provenance: "C. F. Witten", ex libris stamp of the von Schulte-Witten family with coat of arms on verso of title page. - Binding slightly rubbed and bumped, some of the plates slightly stained in the margins, text somewhat browned. - Enclosed: Die Welt in Bildern vorzüglich zum Vergnügen und Unterricht der Jugend. 2nd vol.
