Sabin 17382 - Nissen ZBI 985 - Landwehr 53 - Brunet II, 404 - First edition. - This extraordinary publication, which brings together more than 1,500 species on 400 colour plates, was originally published in 34 volumes. When Cramer died after the eighth instalment, Stoll took over the project and completed this magnificent work. The plates are from specimens lent by collectors in Amsterdam, Haarlem and Utrecht, and the more exotic species are generally illustrated on both sides. - Minimally browned in the cut, partly slightly dusty. Frontispiece of volume 2 somewhat foxed. Overall very clean in colourful colouring. Inner hinges slightly chipped. Volume 3 with leaf addition on title.
