Crane, AC50. - With blindstamp of the HSPA Experiment Station on III, and gilt initials on spine. - Residues of a stamp on the front pastedown. - This work on the reptiles and amphibians of Central America, written by Albert Günther, is volume 7 of the series "Biologia Centrali-Americana. Contributions to the Knowledge of the Fauna and Flora of Mexico and Central America." The series was published between 1879 and 1915 in 240 volumes, which were later summarised in 57 volumes (see Nissen ZBI, 4589). With a total of 1270 plates, the series edited by Frederic D. Godman and Osbert Salvin deals with the most diverse areas of flora and fauna. The seventh volume by Albert Günther deals with 695 different species, which he researched with the help of collections sent to him. The detailed descriptions are supported by the 76 lithographic plates by J. Green. The splendid and detailed illustrations of various reptiles and amphibians are each titled in the print. The 12 coloured plates are particularly impressive with their vibrant colouring. - Margins browned. Partly slightly foxed. Overall a very well-preserved copy with splendid plates.
