Zoology - Herpetology Peters, Wilhelm Carl Hartwig Scientific journey to Mossambique carried out by order of His Majesty King Friedrich Wilhelm IV in the years 1842 to 1848. Zoology. III. amphibians With 33 lithographic, partly coloured plates. Berlin, G. Reimer, 1882. XV, 191 p. 4°. HLwd. with mont. (Rubbed and bumped, front hinge detached from block, book block broken, spine reinforced with tape, stained). H. Peters' scientific description of the journey to Mossambique, "from where he conducted zoological, botanical, geographical, ethnographic and linguistic studies on several marches into the interior of the country in 1843-47 and compiled valuable collections". Peters was director of the Zoological Garden in Berlin from 1857 to 1869 and was responsible for the first description of 200 reptile species. - Foxing, margins browned, some plates loose, beautifully preserved lithographs in rich colours.
