G. Nees von Esenbeck, the naturalist C. G. Ehrenberg (1795-1876) undertook a research trip to the coastal countries of the Red Sea with his friend W.F. Hemprich in 1820, which cost Hemprich and all participants except Ehrenberg their lives. - The splendid plates show sharks, a ray and a swordfish, among others. - Minimal foxing mainly in the margins, a few of the uncut margins browned, overall in good condition.
