Representative set from the splendid zoological plate work. - Nissen, ZBI 2353 - Agassiz III, 400,1 - Monglond V, 873 (with list of plates). - The exceptionally detailed drawings after the living suckling animals and birds in the Paris Ménagerie show, among others, monkeys, antelopes, dolphins, lions, ostriches and zebras. - Provenance: Both inside covers with hs. Owner's note "Ludwig von Gleichen received from Great Aunt Wolzogen". This is probably the landscape painter Ludwig von Gleichen-Russwurm (1836-1901), the son of Schiller's daughter Emilie (1804-1872). His great-aunt was Karoline von Wolzogen (1763-1847), Schiller's sister-in-law. - Without the accompanying texts included with the original deliveries. - Bindings slightly bumped at the corners, somewhat rubbed, some plates slightly foxed, overall well-preserved, high-contrast and fresh engravings.
