Illustrierte Vogelbücher, 241 - Here the photomechanical reprint of the text (the plates in original colour chromolithos) of the complete part of volume 1 of the 7th section "Zoologie" from François Castelnau's collected edition "Expédition dans les parties centrales de l'Amérique du Sud", published between 1850 and 1861, organised by Spamer on behalf of Hiersemann. The text part was written by M. O. De Murs. - "The rarity and the scientific value of this work lead German publishers to reproduce the entire work in 1922 by a photochemical process. Although lacking the value of the original edition, this reproduction is, even so, uncommon, as a greater part was purchased by scientific institutions." (Borba de Moraes, I, 143) - Castelnau was a French scholar who in 1843 set off on an expedition on behalf of King Louis Philippe I, together with two botanists and a taxidermist, to cross South America from Rio de Janeiro to Lima, following the watershed between the Amazon and La Plata river systems in order to reach Pará from there.
