The text part was written by M. O. De Murs. - "The rarity and the scientific value of this work lead German publishers to reproduce the entire work in 1922 by a photochemical process. Although lacking the value of the original edition, this reproduction is, even so, uncommon, as a greater part was purchased by scientific institutions." (Borba de Moraes, I, 143) - Castelnau was a French scholar who in 1843 set off on an expedition on behalf of King Louis Philippe I, together with two botanists and a taxidermist, to cross South America from Rio de Janeiro to Lima, following the watershed between the Amazon and La Plata river systems in order to reach Pará from there.
