The Alpine birds of Switzerland. 2 vols. With 30 mounted and partly coloured OPhotographs. St. Fiden, St. Gallen, 1876-78. each with double leaf. Text leaf as well as 1 further double leaf, together with plates loosely inserted in cloth-covered folders (33.5 x 26 cm) with blind-stamped covers, gilt-stamped D-title, interior mirror and wings with moiré cover (somewhat scuffed and rubbed, interior slightly brownstained).
Extremely rare, according to KVK and Worldcat currently only 3 copies can be traced (Kantonsbibliothek Vadiana St. Gallen, CHUR-Bündner Naturmuseum, Österreichische Nationalbibliothek). - The photographs per albumen print firmly mounted on cardboard, each with typographical information on the bird shown, the photographer and the preparator. - Stölker was a Swiss ornithologist who mainly researched the native bird world. He prepared the birds depicted in the plumage of different seasons, which were then photographed by the Taeschler brothers, who came from a well-known St. Gallen family of photographers. - Delicately and evenly browned in the margins due to the paper, partially pale and minimally brownstained, some of the prints slightly faded in the margins.
