The magnificent illustrations depict the frogs, toads and toads known in Central Europe at the time with detailed natural history descriptions of habitat, reproduction, development of the tadpoles and their organs. Each plate is available in two forms, on the one hand extremely carefully coloured by hand, on the other as an outline etching with numbering and additions. - Slight fingerstaining in the lower margin, otherwise a very fine copy with the plates in vibrant colouring. - Provenance: bookplate F. G. Bertoni on mirror. - Name stamp of the Viennese collector Heinrich von Haerdtl (1854-1939) on flyleaf.
