DENIS IVANOVICH ZUBRITSKY (1777-1862) - historian and ethnographer, one of the leaders of the Russian movement in Galicia, corresponding member of the St Petersburg Academy of Sciences. Most of his scientific publications were written mainly in Polish, more rarely in German, and some of his works were published in Russia in translation in the Journal of the Ministry of Public Education, the Lectures of the Society of Russian History and Antiquities and other periodicals. In his work, Zubritsky tackled a sensitive subject for Russians. Although personally inclined towards Orthodoxy, he remained a Uniate until the end of his life, as the Galician Orthodox Church had been suppressed and no parish churches had survived.
