Ses lignes tendues offrent à la SM un dynamisme unique. Son excellent Cx de 0.46 est le résultat d'un important travail en soufflerie qui dicte l'esthétique globale. - Profitant du rachat de Maserati par Citroën en 1968, la SM bénéficie sous le capot, d'un tout nouveau bloc V6 double arbres marqué du trident et d'une cylindrée de 2 670 cm3, d'abord en version carburateur, puis injection. - Reprenant les suspensions hydropneumatiques de la DS, elle garde ce confort cher à Citroën et la nouvelle direction Diravi à rappel asservi lui permet de soutenir une vitesse élevée avec la plus grande facilité. Seuls 12 920 exemplaires seront vendus sur cinq années de production. Aujourd'hui de plus en plus recherchées, les SM bénéficient d'un regain d'intérêt croissant.
