The pose of the rider is closely comparable to that in Parrocel's painting sold in Lyon, Beron Pérard, 6 June 2015, lot 21, and reflects the artist's distinctive handling of equestrian subjects that established his reputation as the leading French battle painter of the late seventeenth century.
