Born in Chantilly where he discovered his vocation for painting Nicolas Didier Boguet, attended the Académie royale de peinture et sculpture. In 1783, he left for Italy where he travelled around Rome and the surrounding area, painting, drawing and discovering the great masters in churches and museums. He began to concentrate on landscape painting and from then on spent his summers travelling and painting in the Italian countryside, producing hundreds of works. Boguet remained in Italy until his death in 1839.
