Realisé en 1971 Tapestry A student of Moralis and Tsarouchis, and a graduate of the Ecole Nationale d' Art Decoratif d' Aubusson, Yannis Faitakis embarked in the 1960s on a bold plan to transfer to tapestry important works by established Greek artists, as well as his own designs. In his Birds fighting—a handmade tapestry made in the workshop of the Royal Welfare Organization using wool, linen, and silk as raw materials—the brilliance of the abstract forms lends lyrical intensity to the composition, creating a magical, dreamlike atmosphere that verges on surrealism.
