VolksgrenadierDivision), commandee par le Generalmajor Heinz Kokott, a joue un role actif dans la bataille des Ardennes (16 decembre 1944 – janvier 1945). Lors de l offensive des Ardennes, la 26e division Volksgrenadier faisait partie du XLVIIe corps blinde de la 5e armee blindee allemande. Elle avait pour mission de traverser la riviere Our, puis la Clerve, et de progresser vers Bastogne, un carrefour routier strategique. Le 16 decembre 1944, a 5h30, la division a lance son attaque en franchissant l Our pres de Gemund. Malgre une resistance acharnee des forces americaines, notamment du 110e regiment d infanterie, la division a reussi a avancer, mais a ete retardee dans sa progression vers Bastogne. La 26e division Volksgrenadier a participe a l encerclement de Bastogne, mais n a pas reussi a prendre la ville, defendue par la 101e division aeroportee americaine. Condition rated as II+. This regiment was part of the 26th Infantry Division of the Wehrmacht, which was reorganized into the 26th Volksgrenadier Division in the fall of 1944. The 26th Volksgrenadier Division, commanded by Generalmajor Heinz Kokott, played an active role in the Battle of the Bulge (December 16, 1944 – January 1945). During the Ardennes Offensive, the division was under XLVII Panzer Corps of the 5th Panzer Army. Its objective was to cross the Our River, then the Clerve, and advance toward Bastogne, a key road junction. On December 16, 1944, at 530 a.m., the division launched its attack by crossing the Our River near Gemund. Despite fierce resistance from American forces, particularly the 110th Infantry Regiment, the division managed to advance but was delayed in its push toward Bastogne. The 26th Volksgrenadier Division took part in the encirclement of Bastogne, but failed to capture the town, which was defended by the 101st Airborne Division. Harsh winter conditions, rugged terrain, and strong Allied resistance severely hindered the German advance.
