The leather tab is also complete and bears the 19E/JR markings, with some wear and patina. Condition II+. This regiment was part of the 26th Infantry Division of the Wehrmacht, which was reorganised into the 26th Volksgrenadier Division in autumn 1944. The 26th Volksgrenadier Division (26. VolksgrenadierDivision), commanded by Generalmajor Heinz Kokott, played an active role in the Battle of the Bulge (16 December 1944 - January 1945). During the Ardennes offensive, the 26th Volksgrenadier Division was part of the XLVII Armoured Corps of the 5th German Armoured Army. Its mission was to cross the Our river, then the Clerve, and advance towards Bastogne, a strategic road junction. At 5.30 am on 16 December 1944, the division launched its attack by crossing the Our near Gemund. Despite fierce resistance from American forces, particularly the 110th Infantry Regiment, the division succeeded in advancing, but was delayed in its progress towards Bastogne. The 26th Volksgrenadier Division took part in the encirclement of Bastogne, but was unable to take the town, which was defended by the 101st American Airborne Division. Difficult winter conditions, rough terrain and allied resistance hampered the German efforts. Heer leather belt made of relatively supple leather, with a metal buckle. The regimental marking 6/JR78 is visible, along with the size 105. The adjustment tab is complete, although the manufacturer's markings are illegible. The belt buckle, made of pebbled aluminium, is intact but bears no visible markings. The leather tab is also complete and marked 19E/JR. The item shows moderate wear and a pronounced period patina. Condition rated as II+. This regiment was part of the 26th Infantry Division of the Wehrmacht, which was reorganized into the 26th Volksgrenadier Division in the fall of 1944. The 26th Volksgrenadier Division, commanded by Generalmajor Heinz Kokott, played an active role in the Battle of the Bulge (December 16, 1944 - January 1945). During the Ardennes Offensive, the division was under XLVII Panzer Corps of the 5th Panzer Army. Its objective was to cross the Our River, then the Clerve, and advance toward Bastogne, a key road junction. On December 16, 1944, at 530 a.m., the division launched its attack by crossing the Our River near Gemund. Despite fierce resistance from American forces, particularly the 110th Infantry Regiment, the division managed to advance but was delayed in its push towards Bastogne. The 26th Volksgrenadier Division took part in the encirclement of Bastogne, but failed to capture the town, which was defended by the 101st Airborne Division. Harsh winter conditions, rugged terrain, and strong Allied resistance severely hindered the German advance.
