The boy Shurka is a known model from more works of Vladimir Egorovich Makovsky, among others "In the Artist's Workshop (1907-1909), owned by the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. Provenance: Seller's father-in-law, Herluf Jørgensen. He worked in the Great Northern Telegraph Company and was leader of the telegram station in Moscow before and after the Russian revolution 1917.
