Shurka. A Russian boy in a red shirt with curley light hair sitting in a chair. Signed and dated V. Makovsky Shurka July 1 1908 (in Cyrillic). Oil on canvas. 66 x 55 cm. The boy Shurka is a known model from more works of Vladimir Egorovich Makovsky, among others "In the Artist's Workshop (1907-1909), owned by the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. Provenance: Seller's father-in-law, Herluf Jørgensen. He worked in the Great Northern Telegraph Company and was leader of the telegram station in Moscow before and after the Russian revolution 1917. He aquired the painting, while living in Moscow.
