Dès lors il ne peint plus que des scènes du monde musulman. Ce voyageur infatigable s'est attaché à rendre toute la poésie des paysages d'Afrique du Nord, du Proche et du Moyen-Orient. En 1851, il séjourne dix-huit mois à Constantinople dont il tire plusieurs tableaux présentés au Salon de Paris et aux Expositions universelles. Enveloppée dans un nuage de poussière, la caravane ne semble pas prêter attention aux ossements disposés à même le sol, comme un avertissement sur la dangerosité du désert. From then on, he painted nothing but scenes of the Muslim world. This tireless traveller endeavoured to capture all the poetry of the landscapes of North Africa, and that of the Near and Middle East. In 1851, he spent eighteen months in Constantinople, which inspired several pictures that were shown at the Paris Salon and at the Universal Exhibitions. Enveloped in a cloud of dust, the caravan does not seem to be paying any attention to the remains lying on the ground, which are a clear warning of the danger of the desert.
