"One of the finest Roadsters of this generation, exemplarily restored here!
- Launched for the 1955 model year, the Jaguar XK 140 was broadly identical to its predecessor, the sensational XK 120, the main mechanical changes being limited to the repositioning of the engine 7.5 cm further forward and the adoption of rack-and-pinion steering. Suspension and brakes remained broadly the same as before, with stronger torsion bars at the front and telescopic dampers replacing lever dampers at the rear.
- On the outside, the newcomer was distinguished by a modified grille, rear lights incorporating indicators and large bumpers. The engine was still a 3.4-litre twin-cam 6-cylinder, which now delivered 190 bhp as standard. A tighter-ratio gearbox made better use of the extra power and, for the first time, an overdrive was offered as an option.
- Our example joined Mr P.'s collection in June 2022. At that time, the car was black with a burgundy interior, and had not been driven for a long time! Our first-time collector therefore undertook a complete restoration to his exacting standards. Nothing was left to chance: full paintwork, new upholstery and soft top, as well as a complete restoration of the chassis, running gear, gearbox and engine!
- After this work, there are no surprises behind the wheel: the engine sounds perfect, the gearbox is firm and makes no unusual noises, and the running gear is perfectly adjusted.
- Carrying out a complete restoration on a car like this represents colossal costs! Our example is truly ready to take to the road, and will delight the most demanding collectors!
