Cafetière octogonale couverte en grès Böttger de Meissen, circa 1710-13 A Meissen Böttger stoneware octagonal coffee pot and cover, circa 1710-13 With an S-scroll handle and curved, faceted spout with serpent mouth at the base, the panels moulded with a faint diaper pattern, the domed finial with a moulded decoration and six-sided finial, 17.5cm high (two small chips to corner of the foot restored) (2) Literature: S.-K. Ottomeyer, Invention & Vollendung (2016), cat. no. 7 A similar Böttger stoneware coffee pot and cover retaining the black-painted Japanese Palace inventory number 222 was sold by Bonhams London, 20 March 2013, lot 1; another (possibly the same coffee pot) was sold from the Saxon Royal Collections by Rudolph Lepke's auction house, 7-8 October 1919, lot 3. The 1770 inventory of the Japanese Palace records eleven such coffee pots of which three had damaged covers. One remains in the Dresden porcelain collection (inv. no.PE 2482).
