Although Albert Lebourg was quick to adopt the precepts of the Parisian artistic avant-garde, he nevertheless remained attached to the study of the great masters (...) In London, he admired the works of Gainsborough, Turner and especially Constable. His fascination with the landscape masters is reflected in his compositions, which remain more classical than those of his Impressionist contemporaries, such as Monet. His daring use of colour. His talent lies in his innate sense of harmony.
(...) It is Normandy and the whole of the Rouen region that remains the chosen little kingdom where Lebourg's gentle, thoughtful and serious genius blossomed freely; for he is a Norman at heart, a Norman with all the finesse, nuances, delicacies, mists, showers and pretty clear suns of the Norman skies.
