AUTOMATON FEATURING AN ACROBAT WITH TWO CHAIRS France, late 19th century. Attributed to Gustave Vichy (1839–1904) and Auguste Triboulet (1865–1920). Oak box, papier-mâché, fabric and various other materials. The acrobat (possibly Cha-u-Kao) in a yellow dress with sequins demonstrates poses in which she leans with one arm on a chair back. In the other hand she balances a second chair (later). Winding mechanism with crank, a cylinder musical box plays four melodies. 53.5 × 39 × 88 cm. Provenance: Collection of Volker and Christina Huber, Offenbach. Music box and automaton are in working order, but require revision/restoration. Dress and fabric coverings are heavily used and require restoration. Cha-u-Kao) in einem gelben Kleid mit Pailletten zeigt Positionen, bei denen sie sich mit einem Arm auf eine Stuhllehne stützt. In der anderen Hand balanciert sie einen zweiten Stuhl (später).
