CHAMPSAUR Félicien. Lulu, roman clownesque. Paris, Librairie Charpentier et Fasquelle, 1901; large vol. in-8 of [10]-430-[4] pp. bound in contemporary bradel half black long-grain morocco, cover illustrated in colour, witnesses. First edition. The figure of Lulu, a very "visual" character, is central to the work of Félicien Champsaur, who saw the illustrated novel as the future of modernism in literature.
The novel is illustrated with around 200 drawings in the blanks of the text by Montmartre artists of the time: Chéret, Gerbault, Steinlen, Rodin, Helleu, Detouche, Willette, etc.
Two portraits of the author by Capiello and Félicien Rops, the latter in double state.
One of the 30 first copies on Japon, this one enriched with the beautiful and rare advertising poster in colours by Charle Lucas (230 x 610 mm approx.) announcing the publication of the work, mounted on a mitre and folded at the head of the volume.
