CHANVALON (Abbé de). Manuel des champs, ou Recueil choisi... Paris, Lottin le Jeune, 1764. In-12 (164 x 97 mm), marbled calf, gilt arms in the centre of the boards, ribbed spine and ornate boxes, red morocco title-piece, marbled paper end-papers, red edges, Plexiglas case (Binding of the period). First edition. The book is divided into four parts: gardening, agriculture, animal husbandry and cooking. The latter includes advice on preserving and preparing food, as well as wine, beer and cider. The recipes are very brief, often just a few lines long. Due to its great success, the book was republished three times in the 18th century. [Livres en bouche, 157; Cagle, 131 (second edition)]. A copy bearing the arms of the Dukes of La Rochefoucauld. From the library of the Château de la Roche-Guyon, Kilian Fritsch (with bookplate) and Pierre de Combrugghe (2023, no. 59). Small paper loss in the outer margin of the title leaf, of leaf v2 and of leaf E8, causing the loss of a few letters on the latter, book L browned. Very slight rubbing to one box, skilful and discreet restorations to the corners.
