COLLECTION OF ROMAN BRONZE SURGICAL TOOLS.
Ca. AD 1 - 300.
A collection of six surgical implements in bronze and wood. The first one on the top is a long bronze pin with a rounded terminal knob and a pointed tip. The second is a bronze tool with a flat, slot-shaped opening at the centre of its flattened terminal. The third is a slender bronze needle or probe with a series of ringed indentations near a small circular loop. The fourth is a bronze spoon-like instrument with a shallow circular bowl. The fifth is a rounded handle tapering to a broken shaft. The sixth is a small bronze spatula with a flared, fan-shaped end and a narrow tapering shaft.
