On the reverse is a handwritten inscription: "Henri Motte, at the time of doing a painting on the last square at Waterloo, had asked G.H.H if he could give information on the uniforms of the English cavalry regiments that had charged at Waterloo. G.H.H asked an English painter from the Royal Academy, who was a friend of Sanisbury's, and it was this sketch with the details that this painter sent to Henri Motte (1847-1922)".
