Leonardo da Vinci's influence spread very early in Spain thanks to his Milanese followers and Iberian pupils: Pedro Fernandez (the pseudonym Bramantino), Fernando Yáñez de la Almedina (c. 1475-1540) and Hernando de los Llanos (c. 1470 - c. 1525). The influence of Leonardo da Vinci can be discerned in our panel, even if the painter's use of the chiaroscuro modelling known as "sfumato" is only minor. He nevertheless recalls the pose of the Madonna Litta and the Virgin of the Rocks for his figure of Mary, or the dynamic sequence of groups of children, as well as the Florentine master's mountain landscapes. The small Renaissance temple on the right is reminiscent of the architecture in the scenes in the shutters of the altarpiece on the high altar in Valencia Cathedral, executed by Yáñez and Llanos between 1597 and 1510. We will remember the meticulous details, such as the small figures in the portico, a king and a horseman, or the golden highlights in the curls of the hair, which make our panel a charming Virgin of private devotion.
