EGYPTIAN ALABASTER PYRIFORM VOTIVE VESSEL. Old Kingdom, Ca. 2900 - 2200 BC. A pyriform vessel carved from banded alabaster. The body tapers to a flat base and swells outward before narrowing slightly towards the short neck, which is topped by a thick, rounded rim. The stone exhibits horizontal banding in alternating translucent and opaque layers of beige and white. For similar see: Christie's, Live Auction 2856, Antiquities, 5 June 2014, Lot 1.
