EGYPTIAN PAINTED POTTERY JAR WITH LOTUS FLOWERS, PAPYRUS STEMS AND ANKHS. New Kingdom, Ca. 1550 - 1069 BC. A large pottery jar with a biconical body tapering to a pointed base and a tall neck with an outward-flaring rim. The surface is painted in red, blue, and black on a buff ground. The neck is decorated with two registers of vertical petals framed by horizontal bands. The main frieze on the shoulder comprises two stylised lotus flowers with upward-curving stems, a large ankh sign flanked by paired papyrus stalks, and a second ankh flanked by Nilotic plants.
