EGYPTIAN STEATITE SCARAB DEPICTING SPHINX WITH SOLAR DISC. New Kingdom to Third Intermadiate Period, Ca. 1550 - 700 BC. A steatite scarab with a well-defined clypeus, pronounced notches at the sides of the head, and sharply carved legs. The underside is engraved with a recumbent sphinx facing right, surmounted by a sun disc. Below the figure is a central wadj symbol, flanked symmetrically by a pair of ankh signs.
