EGYPTIAN WOODEN HEADREST. Old Kingdom, 6th Dynasty, Ca. 2345 - 2181 BC. A wooden headrest comprising a stable, oval base bordered by a braided edge. Resting upon it are two stylised feet joined at the heels, from which a vertical shaft ascends. At the top, the shaft branches into two opposing hands with fingers held closely together, forming the support for a crescent-shaped headrest that crowns the composition.
