EGYPTIAN WOODEN LID OF SARCOPHAGUS. Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC. A painted wooden lid of a sarcophagus, depicting a mummiform figure with a broad collar composed of rows of multi-coloured beads, the face painted in reddish tones with large, outlined eyes and arched brows, framed by a tripartite wig. The decoration is executed in polychrome over a layer of gesso. The body tapers towards the feet, with a band of hieroglyphic text preserved along the foot section. Reviewed by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition. For similar see: G. Giovetti e D.
