This cover is connected to the middle part of the case via a three-part connection and is screwed over the winding crown. To ensure water resistance, the watch glass is fitted with a lead seal. The dial is matte black with Arabic numerals; the brand name ‘Elgin’ and the trademark are printed in glossy black under the 12, and the lettering ‘USN BUSHIPS’ is printed in glossy black above the 6. BUSHIPS is the abbreviation for the US Navy's Bureau of Ships. Since the imprint is black on black, it is only visible at certain angles. The dial has a small section between 7 and 8 o'clock made of a special material.
