ETRUSCAN TERRACOTTA ANTEFIX DEPICTING GORGON. Ca. 400 - 300 BC. A moulded terracotta antefix with an oval gorgoneion face framed by stylised spiral locks extending outward in symmetrical curls. The facial features are schematically rendered with prominent eyes and a broad nose. The lower section is marked with vertical grooves suggesting a garment or fringe. Size: 110mm x 100mm; Weight: 175g Provenance: Property of a central London gallery, previously acquired on the Dutch art market; previously acquired on the Belgian art market; Hugo Lievens, Brussels 1982.
