This French artist's oeuvre is located at the interface between Western abstraction and the Eastern tradition of calligraphy. Her artistic practice is based on a transcultural approach in which she combines the Western traditions of abstract painting with the philosophical and aesthetic concepts of East Asian calligraphy. Her work centres on the gestural brushstroke as carrier of an energised tension, meditative concentration and performative presence. Verdier began her artistic training first in Paris and then furthered her knowledge through several years of intensive study with calligraphy masters in China. This intercultural influence is evident in her work through the deliberate reduction of formal means and the perception of the artistic process as a meditative act. Her works, often executed in black ink on large-format support materials such as canvas, wood or transparent film, refer in their formal structure both to the aesthetics of action painting and to the calligraphic principles of the Chinese and Japanese traditions. The work offered here at auction features an abstracted ink blot on transparent foil, which can be interpreted as the result of a single, concentrated movement. In this performative gesture, the dimensions of time, space, and energy are condensed into a visually and conceptually focused form. Verdier's works are not only to be understood as the results of a painterly process, but also as a reflection on time, space and energy. Die französische Künstlerin Fabienne Verdier beginnt ihre künstlerische Ausbildung zunächst in Paris und vertieft ihre Kenntnisse dann durch mehrjähriges intensives Studium bei Kalligraphiemeistern in China. Diese interkulturelle Prägung zeigt sich in ihren Werken in der bewussten Reduktion formaler Mittel und im Verständnis des künstlerischen Prozesses als meditativem Akt. Ihre Arbeiten, oftmals mit schwarzer Tusche auf grossformatigen Trägermaterialien wie Leinwand, Holz oder transparenter Folie ausgeführt, verweisen in ihrer formalen Anlage sowohl auf die Ästhetik des Action Painting, als auch auf kalligraphische Prinzipien der chinesischen und japanischen Tradition. Das hier zur Auktion kommende Werk der Künstlerin zeigt einen abstrahierten Tuscheklecks auf transparenter Folie, der als Resultat einer einzigen, konzentrierten Bewegung gelesen werden kann.
