FAVRE (Alphonse). Recherches géologiques dans les parties de la Savoie, du Piémont et de la Suisse voisine du Mont-Blanc. Paris, Victor Masson et fils, 1867. 3 volumes in-8, bound in modern half cloth with corners, with title page on spine, covers preserved, and one large atlas in folio, publisher's cloth binding, gilt title on first cover (soiling, hinges split). First edition of this fundamental work on the geology of the Mont Blanc massif. Rarely complete, the atlas comprises 32 plates numbered I to XXIX and A to C. Scattered brown spots, rare except on plate XXIX, and wetness on plates A to C. Alphonse Favre (Geneva, 1815-1890) was a great geologist who studied the structure of the Alps for some thirty years.
