FIGURE OF A SLEEPING WOMAN Louis XVI, France, 18th/19th century. Gilt bronze. Figure of a sleeping female figure (probably Flora or a nymph) leaning against a tree stump and holding a basket of flowers under her right arm, on a bastion-shaped plinth. Numbered 1105 in red on the inside. H 14 cm, L 20 cm. Provenance: Private collection, Germany. Gilding with some losses. Surface with some scratches. Traces of plasticine under the base, probably remains of a plinth mount (?). The bronze figure on offer shows strong parallels to a porcelain figure by the Vincennes Manufactory entitled “L'Heure du Berger” (see Tamara Préaud & Antoine d'Albis: La Porcelaine de Vincennes. Paris 1991, p. 169, No. 167). That model, dated to the years 1748–52, shows an identical female figure sleeping in the same position, differing only in details from the figure on offer. Unlike the porcelain version, the figure on offer is leaning against a tree stump and the flower basket is filled differently. The Vincennes model is probably based on an engraving by Jean Pelletier, “Le Repos de Diane”, after an oil painting by François Boucher. ------------------------------------------------- SCHLAFENDE FRAUENFIGUR Louis XVI, Frankreich, 18./19. Jh. Bronze vergoldet. Figur einer schlafenden, gegen einen Baumstrunk gelehnten Frauenfigur (wohl Flora oder eine Nymphe), einen Blumenkorb unter ihrem rechten Arm haltend, auf bastionsförmigem Sockel. Innen mit einer roten Nummerierung 1105. H 14 cm, L 20 cm. Provenienz: Deutscher Privatbesitz. Vergoldung stellenweise mit Fehlstellen. Oberfläche teilweise mit Kratzern. Reste von Plastilinspuren unter der Basis, wohl Reste von einer Sockelmontierung (?). Die vorliegende Bronzefigur weist starke Parallelen zu einer Porzellanfigur der Manufaktur Vincennes mit dem Titel "L’Heure du Berger" auf (Vgl. Tamara Préaud & Antoine d'Albis: La Porcelaine de Vincennes. Paris 1991, S. 169, Nr. 167). Jenes Modell, datiert in die Jahre 1748–52, zeigt eine in der Position identische, schlafende Frauengestalt, welche nur in Details von unserer abweicht. Unsere lehnt, anders als bei der Porzellanversion, gegen einen Baumstrunk und der Blütenkorb ist anders gefüllt. Das Vincennes-Modell basiert wohl auf einer Stichvorlage "Le Repos de Diane" von Jean Pelletier nach einem Ölgemälde von François Boucher.
