This painting is particularly interesting because it is the artist's first 'masterpiece', in which he really found the style we still know today. It was presented at the graduation of François Malingrëy, then aged 24, from the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg in 2013. It was acquired on that occasion by Bertrand Gillig, who was to become his first gallery owner, for his private collection. He had to part with it a few years later, and this is how it came to be passed on to its current owner, through Galerie T&L.
François Malingrëy's art is characterised by its very ambitious format, its virtuoso depiction of anatomy and, above all, its dreamlike atmosphere, marked in particular by the principle of double figures.
