Large courtly rococo console table. Oak, carved in relief and in full relief. Cambered, open-worked frame of opulent, juxtaposed volutes, flowers and a central rocaille cartouche, merging into corresponding, strongly curved volute legs. In between, a broad, scenically designed bridge with a fully sculpted depiction of the fable "Fox and Crane" by the French poet Jean de La Fontaine or based on the ancient model of Aesop. Slightly protruding, profiled cover plate made of red-brown marble with grey-white veining. H. 80.5 cm. 126.5 cm x 54 cm.
Provenance: from the dissolution of an important North German private collection. Sold at auction in the 1990s, Koller auction house, Switzerland.
